Ngaruawahia Sides Register Wins

Waikato Division 1

The two Ngaruawahia teams, United and Cameron were the only 1st division squads to register wins on Saturday. Cameron made extremely hard work of defeating bottom-placed Teachers/Varsity 1-0 while Ngaruawahia United had a more convincing 3-0 vistory over Wanderers.

Having had two previous losses (Hamilton 1-5 and Claudlands 1-4) United took hold of Wanderers and controlled much of the play for all bar 15 minutes of the match. Charlie Gorman scored first for United when he was fouled in the penalty area and then took the spot kick to give a 1-0 advantage into the wind. Two further goals that were two minutes apart in the second half clinched the match.

The second goal came off a defender under pressure from link-man Alan Rose who was smartly following up his shot in a crowded goal-mouth. He also made the third by crossing a low ball just beyond the keeper for Charlie Gorman to slide home.
