“Dave brings an extra dimension to the club in terms of coaching qualifications and we’re happy to have him here. Waikato FC didn’t work out for Dave but Ngaruawahia United is a great environment for somebody to reinvent themselves.

“I left my previous club under a cloud and Ngaruawahia welcomed me with open arms and since then the club and I have enjoyed collective success. I’m sure the same will happen for Dave here too,” Gordon Glen Watson said. “We’re aiming to secure our position in the Northern League 1st Division this season and as part of that challenge we have to field a second team.

“With up to 30-35 players competing for places we felt there was a need to manage that number in a realistic, commonsense manner. Dave’s inclusion shows we’ve met that need,” Richard Harris added .

Dave was born in 1971 in Manchester, England where he was (not immediately) selected for North of England School U.16 and U.18, and English Universities.

He spent time at Liverpool FC but failed to get a professional contract, subsequently trialled at Coventry City, Tranmere Rovers and Luton Town. Dave played semi-professional football for Winsford United, Chadderton Town, Harrogate Railway, Harrogate Town, Farsley Celtic, Ossett Town and Hyde United and Bacup Borough as player/assistant coach.

This was followed by him coaching in the USA for NOGA Soccer (Summers 1990-96) He moved to NZ in 2003 as Head of Physical Education at Wanganui City College where he also played and coached Wanganui Athletic.

Dave’s next move was to Wellington as Director of Coaching at Lower Hutt City FC (2005-6) followed by a shift north to Hamilton as Head Coach of Waikato FC. (2006)
