2007 – 7th July, Coach’s Comments

Ngaruawahia v Papakura

A really satisfying weekend against Papakura goes some way to repaying the Narra faithful.

A first team with serious questions posed to produce results came up trumps with a spirited performance and a number of stand-out players. No one more so than loyal club man Glenn Brown, who produced a man of the match performance scoring two goals in his first appearance for the first team in a number of years. No one has ever doubted his ability and hopefully the first of many more performances for the first team.

Both teams played with good conviction, yet in a sporting manner with the difference being provided by Brown’s clinical double strike.

Young Daniel Toulsen also had one of his best performances of 2007 and should continue to improve on his confidence.

This weeks fixture against a Three Kings side chasing promotion will prove a much higher footballing challenge, yet there is a ledger to balance from the first round lesson they handed us in Auckland. A committed effort at training this week will go a long way to how serious we wish to take the fixture.

Once again the A’s proved a side with good momentum and a fighting capacity that will be hard to knock over. I would temper that comment with the prospect of a huge Challenge against a Three Kings outfit that for mine has been the best reserve team in the league.

That aside, a lot of confidence will be carried into the fixture with another solid effort against Papakura last weekend. Ziggy (David Lisignoli) has once again shown a good eye for goal with a brace and continued effort will push his claims for a first team role in coming seasons.

Troy Lochead is hard to keep out of the action, playing a full 90 minutes for the A’s, grabbing a goal and then fronting for the firsts and putting that game beyond doubt with another goal. Superb effort from a marvellous club man. Rory Kerr-Bell also deserves mention for his continued efforts for the A team.

Lastly, our best wishes go out to young Mikey, who sustained a horrible injury on Thursday night and is set to miss the remainder of the season. All the best for a speedy recovery.

It is vital that we not rest on our laurels and continue to develop our performances in the remainder of the ’07 campaign with still seven games to be played. We look forward to two more committed efforts against Three Kings.
