Chatham Cup Dual
Two buses left Te Puke on Saturday heading to Ngaruawahia for the Chatham Cup clash. The atmosphere was amazing although the supporters bus was a lot louder as the players were psyching themselves up for what proved to be a fantastic game of football.
It only took Te Puke Super Liquor United 3 minutes before the first goal was scored by Dan Woollen, only to see Ngaruawahia retaliate a few minutes later to level the scores. Ngaruawahia scored twice more with Hamish Olesen scoring Te Puke’s second goal in the first half.
After the half-time break Te Puke took the field fully believing they could win the game. Josh Stewart and Lee Hillier scored 2 more goals, however Ngaruawahia also scored 2 more to see the final score end up at 5-4 to Ngaruawahia.
Te Puke showed a lot of pride and determination in this goal-for-goal battle. They may not have come home with a win but the lads came home with pride and their heads held high.
Player of the day this weekend went to Josh Stewart.
Te Puke’s players and supporters thoroughly enjoyed their day with a very hospitable and friendly Ngaruawahia club.
It has been suggested that the 2 teams meet for a pre-season friendly game next year.
