Club hope for pledge pay-off

By: ANDERSON Ian

Don’t forget to pay.

A fundraising venture begun by the Waikato Times will get the Ngaruawahia United soccer club to their Chatham Cup semifinal in Dunedin — but the club would appreciate it if all the money pledged was in the bank before they head south.

Club president Maxine Williams said the the club has been delighted with the response from backers after the Times pledged $1000 for Ngaruawahia to fly to meet Dunedin Technical on August 16.

But the publicity surrounding their fairytale Cup run has rebounded slightly.

“We’ve been running raffles to raise funds and people have told our sellers that we’ve got plenty of money,” she said.

“In theory we’ve got enough — but we’d like to get the money pledged to pay for fares,” Williams said.
