$4000 in bank
CHATHAM CUP giant killers Ngaruawahia United have $4000 already in the bank with the promise of at least another $9000 to come before the northern league division one club heads south for its semifinal clash with Dunedin Technical.
United needs $15,000 for the trip, and the whole of Waikato has come to its aid. The Waikato Times kicked things off with $1000, and Radio Sport held an appeal during its soccer hour last week.
A Ngaruawahia request to Technical for the semifinal to be brought forward to the Saturday has been declined.
Ngaruawahia president Maxine Williams said the club was hoping to be able to relax after the game which, because of the travel, would not be as easy with a Sunday match.
“We’re a bit disappointed, but we can see their point of view,” Williams said. “It’s their home game, and they reckon they’ll get a better crowd on the Sunday.”
