Work pays off as Ngaruawahia score four goals
By: ANDERSON Ian
Attention to detail brought relief for Ngaruawahia soccer coach Jeff Coulshed.
Coulshed saw his troops whack four goals past Tauranga City without reply to substantially bolster their scoring tally in the Northern League division one competition.
Ngaruawahia had netted just 15 goals from nine matches previously in the league. On Saturday, the work at training paid dividends as the home side routed the third-placed visitors.
“I had been a bit concerned over our scoring record so we worked on goalscoring attitudes and techniques in training and how to deal with the expected wet conditions,” Coulshed said.
Nick Helwig (2), Gary Kingi and Johnny Bell ensured Coulshed’s move was a stunning success.
In division two, Claudelands Rovers failed to cope with the class of a quartet of Fijians as they were soundly beaten 5-2 by second-placed West Auckland at home on Saturday.
The imported foursome, all believed to have played for their national side at some level, dictated the outcome despite Keith Fraser and Pat Conchie scoring for Rovers.
Matamata Swifts recovered quickly from last weekend’s horror away loss to Hibiscus Coast by scoring a 4-0 victory at home over Pukekohe which keeps them in second place in division three.
Sammy Smith (2), Andre Bos and Bevan Shelley were Swifts’ scorers.
