Ngaruawahia Soccer
Northern League
Tony Armstrong netted United’s only goal against Rotorua Suburbs who ran away with the game 6-1! United contributed to Rotorua’s tally with three well-taken, own-goals from Graham Bowers and Tim Coyne 2. Half-time score 0-3.
1st Division
Cambridge proved too strong for United with goals from Graham Tooka 2, Steven Dicks and Steven Moore. Glen Solomon of United replied from the penalty spot for a 1-4 score-line. Although Cambridge out shot United, the home team were always in with 4 chance.
3rd division
Rod Hill celebrated his 21st birthday on Saturday by being given his marching orders in the game against Cambridge. Trailing 2-3 at the turn, and having made the gross error of using both subs too early, United’s strength went down to nine men before they won 6-3. Goals from Staf Magee 3, Ben Henkel (penalty), Ricky Duffull and Trevor McLaughlan.
Ladies A
Carol Legalis made the only goal in United’s 1-0 win over Huntly.
The Huntly ladies soccer team were defeated 1 goal to nil by Ngaruawahia Affco No 1. at Ngaruawahia’s Centennial Park last Sunday.
This game was played in ideal conditions and followed by a fair crowd was very entertaining to watch with both teams trying to open the scoring.
Ngaruawahia Affco found the Thistle defence very tight as did Huntly find out at the other end.
A scoreless draw would have been a better result as both teams played attractive football. But after 15 minutes in the second half the inevitable happened when Ngaruawahia Affco broke through the Thistle defence. To make it Ngaruawahia 1 Huntly 0.
For Thistle, as a team, it was a dissappointing result,. because both teams were lying second equal on points -behind Hamilton.
The Huntly teams player of the day Brenda Stuart played a great game on the wing so also did Karen Ruston, the skipper, playing on the other wing. The Thistle defence of Betty Dixon, Marg Robinson, Christine Towner and Kay Simpson are finally starting to knit together as a unit which the opposition are finding hard to penetrate.
Our (the Huntly) forwards and midfield are improving with every game if only they would pass the ball more often.
Ladies B
An improved performance by the girls saw them going down only 0-1 to Unicol, after holding them for much of the game.
13th grade

9th grade
