Huntly Ladies lose to Affco
The Thistle girls threw away victory with unimaginative football at Horotiu when they played AFFCO ladies in the Waikato ladies competition last Sunday.
Thistle’s player of the day Margaret Robinson played a great game in the midfield cutting out the AFFCO forwards time after time.
Another to play a great game in defence was little shorty Christine Towner who was everywhere.
The first half of the game was pretty even with both teams trying to get on top but halftime came with no goals.
In the second half Huntly came right into the attack but the AFFCO’s keeper was playing a great game.
First goal came with 15 minutes to go. A scramble in the Huntly goalmouth saw a ball finding its way to the AFFCO inside left who could do nothing but push the ball into the back of the net.
Five minutes to go Christine Towner in the penalty area went up to head a ball with a hand on her head. The referee had no option but to award a penalty from which AFFCO scored their second goal.
On the day the Huntly supporters who turned up for the game all agreed that the Thistle girls tried hard with one or two exceptions.
Next week the girls are at home to Te Kuiti Gold and the locals must win this game to have any chance of winning the championship this year.
