Huntly Thistle Ladies Draw With Cameron

In very cold conditions at Huntly Domain on Sunday, at home to Cameron, had to be content with one point after a very even and hard-fought game saw a final score of one all.

The play of both teams on a slippery surface in these very low temperatures was of a very high standard and right from the first whistle to the last play flowed up and down the field with neither team able to claim any advantage.

For most of the first half Huntly were on the attack but lack of real finish and a sound display from Cameron’s goalkeeper saw these attacks break down at the last minute. Cameron were thwarted by Huntly’s back line who were, as always, hard to get past.

The second half started with Huntly once more onto the attack but once again sound defence saw them repulsed time and time again. Cameron weathered this period and started to apply pressure, and from an indirect free kick inside the penalty area a well placed shot over the heads of the Huntly defence saw them leading 1-0.

With only 10 minutes until full time Huntly threw everything into attack once more and after forcing Cameron to concede two corners Julie Topp finally cracked the defence with a shot into the top of the net to make the scores level. Although both teams tried everything they knew no further goals were added and the final whistle brought an end to an extremely interesting game.

Player of the day for Huntly was Christine Towner who once again turned on an outstanding display of football in a very sound backline.
