No One from First Division
The master-in-charge of soccer at St Paul’s Collegiate School, Hamilton, Mr L. Thornton, on Friday denied a statement by a Ngaruawahia Press reporter in last week’s issue. This referred to the third division Waikato secondary schools’ soccer match against Ngaruawahia High School.
St Paul’s, who won 7-0, “fielded many players from their first division squad,” the report claimed.
“There was no one from the first division squad,” Mr Thornton said, “nor from the second division for that matter. We don’t do that.”
On another statement in the report that “the Ngaruawahia team’s height averaged half that of St Paul’s,” Mr Thornton said, “that would be hard to do.”
