Huntly Thistle 3rd Division Win Again

The third division (Waikato) has 16 teams in the competition. After each team has played 8 games the division will be broken into two separate competitions – a top eight and a bottom eight. The teams in the top eight will then fight it out for the III division honours. After five games played, Huntly has won three, drawn one and lost one, putting Huntly in about fourth position overall.

The latest match was against Cameron FC, and played at Ngaruawahia. This game was one of Huntly’s better efforts at team play. There has been a tendency in the past for individual actions to bring individual goals, but all the goals on Saturday were team goals. The man to punch them into the net was Wayne Towner, who was at the right spot at the right time to finish off the team’s movement. Half-time score was 2-0 to Huntly.

At the beginning of the second half, Cameron applied a bit of pressure to the Huntly goal, but even when they managed to get a shot in, there was little power behind it, and keeper Donald Godsall had no trouble keeping them out.

That short lapse in effort by Huntly was soon replaced by the strong-running goal-scoring efforts of the first half, and when the full-time whistle blew, Huntly had added another two goals to their tally, both again off the boot of Wayne Towner. For the second week running Wayne is awarded the Tirewelders Ltd “Player of the Game” award.
