Water Polo on Galloway Park
Waikato 1st Division
In a match that should have been postponed, Claudlands Rovers scored a 4-1 win over Ngaruawahia United.
Thirty percent of the ground was covered in water and the cold driving rain made it decidedly miserable for all. As far as can be ascertained, this was the only match permitted on Galloway Park on Saturday.
The Rovers goalkeeper had plenty of work to keep him warm while the United keeper slowly froze solid from inaction. When Rovers did break through to score, it was past a semi-mobile keeper. Fullback K. Riley moved up from United’s defence to add weight to an attacking movement and scored his team’s only goal.
Ngaruawahia looked a lot sharper than in previous games and the move of shifting Mike Liddle into the forwards from his mid-field berth seemed to do the trick.
