Twelve Goals in Ngaruawahia Game!

In the unexpected result of Saturday’s games was that of Cameron defeating a strong Te Awamutu Red team.Cameron, watched by their first division squad who had a bye, confounded their critics by coming out with a 5-0 win.

The largest winning margin was that of Ngaruawahia over Te Awamutu Gold 11-1. Ngaruawahia is seen to be the team that plays at the standard of its opposition. The scrappy play on Saturday kept the score down and within reasonable bounds. Striker Peter Vela amassed 5 goals to add to the three accumulated last Saturday to give him eight goals in two appearances for his club. Wingers Jeff McLaughlin and Jeff Begbie gained two each with Tony Armstrong and gary Smith adding theirs.

Two Fine Saves

Junior 7th Grade

A good display was seen from Ngaruawahia when they defeated Maeroa C by 7 goals to 1, especially with ten men after only 10 minutes of play. These 10 had two 9th grade players to fill in after playing their own earlier game. Goals were scored by Tommy Connors (3), Andrew Bell, David Rooney, Fred Timothy and Peter Harrop. Good performances were seen from Jeff Gray, Brian harding, David Rooney and two very fine saves by keeper Norman Beddis, the relief goalkeeper.

John Bell Gets a Brace of Goals

Junior 9th Grade

The biggest score to date against Hamilton East was accomplished by Ngaruawahia who defeated them 3-1 with goals by John Bell (2) and David Rooney. The usual hard-working displays were had from Phillip Gray, Charlie Tengu, Graham Henman, Brian harding and goalkeeper Kerry McGee, with the other team members always in the thick of the fray – a pleasing result.
