Wayne Equals Tommy’s Record of Five

Junior 7th grade

Wayne Abbott, with the assistance of Tommy Connors, Andy Bell, Danny Rooney and Fred Timothy (penalty) netted nine goals against a luckless Maeroa C in the final game of the 7th grade division soccer competition at the Ngaruawahia High School

Wayne equalled Tommy Connor’s top game score of five goals in a game where everything he did turned golden. Maeroa C managed two goals in retaliation.

The Ngaruawahia boys played well as a team in the first half and had accumulated six goals. The second half saw Ngaruawahia degenerate into a squad of individuals. Moana had a good day in goal, despite the two that went through.

Ngaruawahia’s points rivals, Maeroa B, are equal with Ngaruawahia on 23 points but have an inferior goal average and would have had to win 17-0 to topple the winners. With 56 goals for and 10 against the boys have gone through a good first season together and are looking forward to the 1976 competition under the continuing direction of Glen Gray in the Waikato 4th division.

Results from other games in this section were unavailable for this report.

Points table: Ngaruawahia United 23, Maeroa B 21, Marist B 20, Melville B 16, Maeroa C 12, Peachgrove B 9, Marist C 5.
