Affco 7, Ngaruawahia 2

Friendly

Ngaruawahia became the first Waikato team to meet Affco Northern league 4th Division in a “friendly” this season.

Affco completely dominated the game with crisp, concise moves and a positive display of football. Despite the absence of several key players, Ngaruawahia entered the game with determination and had the chance to score first near the beginning but shot wide. Bill Burston showed improved form on the right wing and his centres were his best this season.

Affco hammered the United goal and were 4-0 up at the half. They relaxed temporarily in the second spell and Ngaruawahia took their opportunity to net twice. Affco replied with three more of their own to make the score 7-2.

Rex Nightingale had an off-and-on day, making three applauded saves but letting a few through as a result of being caught out of position. Jeff McLaughlin had a good game with the seniors.

Affco and Ngaruawahia hope that such friendlies between their clubs can become a regular affair each season.
