Huntly Beats Ngaruawahia/Taupiri

Pre-season Tournament

Huntly Thistle 3rd Division soccer met a combined Ngaruawahia/Taupiri team in a friendly soccer match at the Ngaruawahia pre-season Tournament on Saturday. The 2-0 win to Huntly was well deserved and the game a most enjoyable one.

The Tournament matches semi-finals and final were played also on Saturday with Cambridge defeating Te Kuiti 6-5 after being decided on penalties, and Matamata downing a re-vamped Rovers team 5-3 by the same method.

There was a 2-hour break between the semi-finals and the final with the Huntly v Ngaruawahia/Taupiri game and a Ngaruawahia juniors match filling in. Juniors Green defeated Juniors White by the single goal taken by M. Rooney.

In the Tournament final Matamata was too strong for Cambridge. Matamata’s finishing and defence work carried them to a 2-0 win and a first prize of $40, leaving the $10 prize to Cambridge.
