5-1 Win Over Ngaruawahia
Geoffrey Kemp lifted Ngaruawahia’s hopes when he scored first in his teams 4th Division soccer match against Affco Rangers on Saturday. Looking far more accomplished and dangerous than that of previous occasions, Ngaruawahia mounted many threatening moves through Jeffrey McLaughlin but could not cap off their moves.
Michael Meijborg did not have his best day in the forwards but worked hard, being unable to make the most of the opportunities that came his way. Joey Wright’s lack of height in goal was exploited well by the Affco Rangers forwards. Grant Crawford and Brian Jacobs gave their team the confidence required with some stirling work in defence. When Jacobs had to retire through injury it was Kerry Barakat who, though being half Jacob’s size, more than ably filled the gap.
Affco took the game 5-1 but found it a little harder than their previous 6-0 win.
Ngaruawahia’s 2nd Division side won by default from Putaruru.
