Hard Pressed to Field Side
Waikato Division 2
With two key players out with injury, Ngaruawahia 2nd Division were hard pressed to field a team against Te Kuiti last Saturday. Young Jeff McLaughlin made his debut on the left wing and gave a creditable performance with Steven Hayward playing his first game for the club as a forward and scoring Ngaruawahia’s only goal.
Te Kuiti scored their first goal from a left wing cross, the height of which was misjudged by keeper Rex (Nightingale) and it floated on into the net. Their second goal was a flukey side-foot shot that almost the Te Kuiti scorer didn’t believe, the ball curling over the head of the keeper.
Players to stand out for the home team were Rex Nightingale, Steven Mark, Gary Scott, Peter Vela and George Sunnex.
