Fitters Draw with Ngaruawahia
In showery weather and slippery conditions Affco Fitters drew 2-2 with Ngaruawahia United in the return of two games, the first being won by United 2-1.
United were up 2-0 at halftime from flukey goals than came more from the muddy conditions than from definite shots. The goals themselves could not be truly attributable to any single United player, although George Sunnex and Neil Gorman were in the thick of it.
This did not mean that the Fitters were out of the game – far from it. Their attacks were far neater and better planned than United’s and had the defence stretched. It was in the second half when keeper Nightingale was called on to stretch himself somewhat. Fitters first goal came from the right and was first-timed into the net from 3 yards out. The second came what a fast bouncing through ball bounced away of Nightingale’s chest for a Fitters forward to collect and net.
At times the refereeing was a bit one-eyed but a firm control was held over the potentially dangerous incidents. Too many hand balls were let run on both sides when definite advantages were gained, but this was a minor point.
The Schoolboys meet United this Saturday at 3.00 on Centennial Park to further their winning way, having previously won 3-1.
