Affco Fitters v United
In an entertaining game at Ngaruawahia on Saturday United scraped home by two goals to one against the AFFCO Fitters soccer team.
Neil Gorman opened for United when his first shot bounced off the chest of keeper Keith Ainscough for Neil to move in and slide home. This goal resulted from some fine interpassing by the Ngaruawahia forwards. The second goal from United came when a lobbing cross from Bill Burston on the right wing met Ian Todd on the penalty spot to head home.
George Sunnex had a good time on the left wing, putting across some dangerous balls with Mike Liddle tangling a number of his markers with his dribbling.
M. Wells collected a defensive error by United to net for Affco. Affco were often on dangerous attack but, like United, could not finish off. Players for Affco Fitters to stand out were goalkeeper Keith Ainscough, Doug Marsh and M. Wells. Ngaruawahia players of note were Ian Todd, Mike Liddle and Rex Nightingale.
The return match will be played at Affco, Horotiu on September 29. The players appreciate and thank the Ngaruawahia Rugby league Club for the use of their showers.
