Ngaruawahia Beaten in Soccer
Following a two-all draw in the first round, Ngaruawahia United travelled to Matamata to be downed 5 goals to 2.
With the wind in their faces Ngaruawahia held the home team to 2-1. Then in the second half the team fell apart. Four chances were missed by the forwards. Two goals were certainties, or would have been if the Ngaruawahia forwards had moved after the ball in the goal area instead of acting as spectators.
Maurice Frankhouser had a bad day as did many other players in the defence. A penalty was conceded by the defence when the ball was accidently handled in the penalty area. The fullbacks had the audacity to take their time in defence and paid the price for it. George Sunnex had a decidedly off-day with none of the others making any impressive overtures. Neil Gorman and Steven Haywood scored for Ngaruawahia.
4th Division
Ngaruawahia Green went down 7 nil to Wanderers while the “B” team (Ngaruawahia Red) were only beaten 3 nil by Affco. Alex Henry, a new signing for the Red team, played well in defence with Andrew Bell showing the same skill in the halves as he did the previous week.
