United and Cameron in Draw

A perfectly placed free kick from United’s half-back Neil Gorman, set the tone of the Ngaruawahia United v Cameron match on Saturday. Strikers Charlie Gorman and Malcolm Burt ran through, and with the help of defender Tony Janssen, who collided with the keeper,  Burt was able to push the ball home to give United the advantage after 10 minutes.

United held sway over a confused Cameron squad in the first half and went further into the lead with a fine solo run from Alan Rose who committed the keeper and tapped the ball in from an acute angle to give United a 2-0 advantage at the turn.

In the second half United’s striker, Alan Rose, was causing much concern in the Cameron defence and they were forced to play the man off the ball to ensure stopping his scything runs. In one of these tackles he badly wrenched his shoulder and had to eventually leave the field. Phillip Bullivant netted United’s third goal from a corner when he slotted it through the only gap in a wall of milling Cameron jersies.

Cameron had a brief come-back to equalise at 3-3 and were fortunate to take away a point from the encounter. Referee Tom Woodington gave a good display of refereeing and the game flowed well.

Team Members “Bugged”

With a team decimated with  the “bug”, Ngaruawahia commenced their match against Morrinsville with nine players and built up their playing force to 11 over the next 30 minutes. Ken Chisholm and Jeff McLaughlin netted three each with Tony Armstrong gaining two in their 8-1 win over Morrinsville.
