United Gets a Towelling
Waikato Division 1
Lack of training over the last eight weeks came to the fore when Hamilton dealt out a 5-1 towelling to Ngaruawahia United in the Waikato 1st Division soccer competition. However some consolation was received when Hamilton failed to reach the double figures they were hoping for.
Charlie Gorman scored a scorching drive when he picked up a mis-kick from the Hamilton defence and under pressure from the keeper and two defenders, sliced the ball wide into the net. Mike Liddle and Charlie Gorman both came close in the second half and it was only the exceptional ability of the Hamilton keeper that kept them out.
Team Captain, Wilf Peard, worked hard in defence alongside Graham Bowers and they bore the brunt of the Hamilton attacking forays.
Murray Liddle had a good 90 minutes in goal and could not be blamed for any of the five that went through.
Mike Liddle and Jeff Brunning got through a tonne of work but tired late in the second spell. Malcolm Burt and Phillip Bullivant, wingers, sent some good balls across but the forwards were not there to deal with them.
Ngaruawahia has another hard game when they meet Claudlands Rovers on Saturday.
