Woodwork Shots Don’t Count

If woodwork shots were worth something, Ngaruawahia United would have been in double figures against their local opponents Affco Rangers. Everything was done bar putting the ball into the back of the net. Charlie Gorman of United was even given a second opportunity at a penalty when it was ruled that the keeper had moved prematurely, but obligingly sent it wide.

Chas Gorman (2), Phil Bullivant and Mike Liddle netted for Ngaruawahia with Affco replying with two fine retaliatory  goals, one dropping behind the keeper and the second coming from a breakaway left-wing drive.

The goal of the day came from a quick break initiated by keeper Murray Liddle, the ball travelling rapidly up the wing and into the centre where Neil Gorman laid it back for his brother Charlie Gorman to crack home.

Huntly dropped five placings with a thud on the table when they were defeated 4-3 by Teachers. Te Awamutu Gold is starting to make their move up the chart with a 3-3 draw against Affco. Putaruru 1 and Ngaruawahia are holding the top spot but find three other clubs snapping at their heels, one point in arrears. Putaruru 1, an almost invincible team at home,  Putaruru 1 meets Ngaruawahia at Putaruru on Saturday to decide on the table leader.
