Brothers United
Trevor McLaughlin and his brother Trevor matched each other goal for goal in their teams win over Fraser on Saturday. The Ngaruawahia United soccer team (third division) took Fraser 5-1 in the first game of the season. The McLaughlins scored a pair each with the fifth coming from Tony Armstrong.
Fraser, a well disciplined squad, scored first. Their direct style of play gave them the initial edge, but the experience of Jim McCaig and Ian Todd in the defence gradually gained supremacy and they worked in well with new goalkeeper, Murry Liddle to prevent any further sullying of the net.
Begbie, Smith, and Prendergast had a reasonable day with Albert Hakim making some good plays. Peter Williamson and Billy McCaig seemed a little lost for a while but played some enthusiastic football. McCaig and Todd put frequent long balls over the heads of the Fraser defenders for United forwards to run on to, and five of these resulted in goals.
This Saturday the third division squad travel to Putaruru to play Putaruru No. 2 at 2 p.m.
