Glen Watson proves Ngaruawahia’s saviour again
Gordon Glen Watson has saved Ngaruawahia for the second time in just four appearances in soccer’s northern league season.
He scored an 89th minute equaliser in his first match of the year against Papatoetoe in April and the striker yet again used his head from a set-play in the dying stages to share the spoils 1-1 away to Mangere in the first division on Saturday.
Coach Richard Harris bemoaned Glen Watson’s “half lap of honour” in celebration but was satisfied his team had earned a point against a tidy opposition.
“I’m afraid to say it but he’s starting to make a habit of it,” Harris said of Glen Watson’s heroics.
“We’ve conceded from a free kick but battled hard against a not bad side and with two minutes to go Gordo’s done it again from a (David) Firisua corner.”
Ngaruawahia’s third draw of the season saw them leap one place on the ladder and are now tied for ninth with Ellerslie.
