Ngaruawahia High School Seniors defeat Fraser
Secondary Schoolboys Div. 2
Determined running by Allan Rose gained him his 10th competition goal in 5 schoolboy matches when he netted four times in Ngaruawahia’s 4-2 defeat of Fraser High School. In a slightly scrappy game, Ngaruawahia made the most of the ground and the opportunities. The defence played well and Kamira Haggie had an excellent second-half game.
Ngaruawahia scored first when a typical mammoth clearing kick from Rex Nightingale (keeper) sailed over the heads of the defending Fraser fullbacks for Rose to run onto and score. It was this type of aggressive attacking by some of the Ngaruawahia forwards that in part gave them so many goals. Fraser equalized without touching the ball – the defence passed a ball back to Nightingale, only to see it sneaking into the corner of the net!
Steven Barr set up his team’s second goal when he attempted to chip a long ball over the keeper’s head. The ball struck the cross-bar and rebounded onto the leg of Allan Rose. From there the deflection went out to Martin Bell on the wing, back to Rose and in. The third goal came from yet another long-ranging kick from Nightingale for Rose to gain his hat-trick – a goal identical to the first one of the match.
Fraser netted when Rex Nightingale fumbled and fell while attempting to take the ball. It bounced clear of him to be netted by the onrushing forwards to bring the score to 2-3. Ngaruawahia set the seal on the game when a movement (was) started by the throw in from Tony Janssen. Steven Barr lobbed it over the keeper and it was on its way into the net. However, it was Allan Rose that ensured that the movement was completed when he nipped around the keeper and helped the ball on its way, thus giving Ngaruawahia a 4-2 win.
Martin Bell held on to the ball for too long on occasions and allowed the defence to settle in before feeding his forwards. McIntosh and Barakat did not have their best days. Steven Mark and Barr, with the other backs, kept an otherwise dangerous Fraser forward line well in check.
Ngaruawahia High School Juniors trounced by Fraser HS
Secondary Schoolboys Div. 4
Ngaruawahia were very lucky not to have had twice the number of goals scored against them than they did on Saturday when they were beaten by Fraser Juniors by 4 goals to 1.
Fraser played enterprising football and thoroughly deserved their win. Ngaruawahia looked like spectators all through the game. Craig McPherson was one of the few that showed any spark and was rewarded with a goal in the second half.
Paul was replaced by Callaghan in goal in the second half and the forwards found themselves with more of the ball from more powerful clearing kicks. Roger Miles and Colin White began to get their boots behind their kicks towards the end of the match, but it was then too late.
The boys were grateful to Mrs Fox and Mrs Flyger for assisting them with transport.
Top Goal-Scorer
Allan Rose of Ngaruawahia United and the Ngaruawahia High School senior soccer team has commenced an impressive scoring spree. As a rather domineering forward he has proved invaluable to both his school and club teams by averaging almost three goals a game. His total for the season to date is 28 goals in 10 games.
His team-mate, Martin Bell, has been selected in the Waikato under 16 team as an outside forward.
United Senior win by default
Waikato Division 2
Two more points were gained when Putaruru defaulted to Ngaruawahia United last Saturday. To date United has 7 match points, putting them in the top five teams.
